2nd part of the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon (concept): 1.062 kilometers in 9:09 minutes – completed on Monday, April 11th 2016, in the favela Pavão-Pavãozinho (overall ma). The graffiti and plastic artist and activist ACME (*1978) lives in Rio de Janeiro (more about him).
Why did you choose this part to represent Rio de Janeiro at the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon?
I want to show the aesthetics that cannot be seen on the postcards of Rio de Janeiro. This place here is so to speak the background of Copacabana. Copacabana in front of us and we here, on the scene. In the past, there was a lot of garbage here. Nowadays we residents have combined forces, we have converted this place to a recreation area. But it was us, the residents, who have done this. I want to show the authorities that it is possible to improve, that dignified people live here, tough workers and athletes.
Your favourite place of art in Rio?
Art in the favela and the social contrast between it and the wealthiest quarters of Rio. Here we have a favela forgotten by the city administration.
Your favourite shop in Rio?
The second-hand stores because they are cheap, and the hardware store Palácio das Ferramentas in the centre.
Your favourite restaurant in Rio – and what should you order there?
My favourite restaurant is the Bela Vista here on the hill. I like the Caipira chicken and the Sarapatel.
