16th part of the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon (concept): 0.496 kilometers in 4:35 minutes – completed on Wednesday, April 13th 2016, in the quarter Lapa (overall map). The dancer and acrobat Ana Lu Redher (*1977) lives in Rio de Janeiro (more about her).
Why did you choose this part to represent Rio de Janeiro at the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon?
I have selected this segment because the cultural foundation Fundição Progresso, where we are right now, is a very important place for me, personally and professionally. Here I started to work in 2001 and now I am working here again. Culturally seen it is a very rich place. We passed the Arcos da Lapa, the cathedral, the Circo Voador, another significant cultural centre which stages marvellous shows. The Fundição Progresso is a centre which brings together many groups from theatre, music and circus. And at the same time the quarter Lapa is always full of homeless, aggressive thieves and drug addicts, whom we call «cracudos». This place is neglected a little by our government, as well as other places.
Your favourite art place?
Parque Lage, Jardim Botânico. The park offers countless events in the realms of art, theatre, music, dance, exhibitions, installations etc. It is a wonderful place and I hope that it remains so active culturally.
Your favourite shop in Rio?
Vacamarella, Rua Visconde da Graça 18f, Jardim Botânico. A shop for baby and child clothes and creative accessories.
Your favourite restaurant in Rio – and what should you order there?
Braseiro da Gávea, Praça Santos Dumont, Gávea. I recommend the Picanha ao Braseiro with rice-broccoli, farofa with banana and portuguese potato. Do not forget the sausage with vinaigrette as a starter.
