35th part of the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon (concept): 0.987 kilometers in 13:08 minutes – completed on Tuesday, April 19th 2016, in the quarter Maré (overall map). The artist Kristin Bethge (*1988) lives in Rio de Janeiro and Berlin (more about her).
Why did you choose this part to represent Rio de Janeiro at the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon?
The road we took is part of my experiences here in Rio; right here in the Complexo da Maré everything started. The surroundings offer a different view than the south part, here you can find a lot of culture as well, it is unbelievable. For me it is as if I had found another world in these alleys. I think this is really beautiful here.
Your favourite art place?
The Gentil Carioca in the centre, at the Praça Tiradentes, because of the good exhibitions and the wonderful shows with nice people in the old centre.
Your favourite shop in Rio?
The fleamarkets and secondhand-shops in Glória and Lapa.
Your favourite restaurant in Rio – and what should you order there?
Bar do Peixe, Rua André Cavalcânti, 16 – Lapa. I recommend it, because it is an authentical spot in Lapa. Chairs and tables in the middle of the street. Eating suggestion: Namorado or sardines with pirão and rice.
