45th part of the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon (concept): 0.218 kilometers in 4:53 minutes – completed on Friday, April 22nd 2016, in the quarter Centro (overall map). The actress Jack Roversi lives in Rio de Janeiro (more about her). The author Margarida Rebelo Pinto lives in Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro (more about her).
Why did you choose this part to represent Rio de Janeiro at the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon?
Jack Rocervi: I selected the monastery of Santo Antônio because I am an actress and because my friend and author Margarida Rebelo Pinto is from Lisbon, Portugal. When we first met, she was with me at my house writing her book "Mariana, meu amor" [Mariana, my love] which tells the story of a nun who lived in a monastery and during her whole life exchanged love letters with a person she was unable to live with, and thus they wrote letters to eachother all their lives. Therefore, I thought that it would be perfect to get to know the monastery of Santo Antônio. To build a bridge between Rio and Lisbon. It is an absolutely Portuguese cloister, a Portuguese construction in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Margarida Rebelo Pinto: I selected the monastery of Santo António because Santo António is the patron saint of Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro is full of monuments and has wonderful places that copy the aesthetics of the architecture from the time of the discovery of America. And Santo António is a very mighty saint here in Brazil, as powerful as in Portugal. He is patron saint for both of us! So we show a little bit this big unity between the Portuguese and Brazilian artists that exists in literature, on stage, in music. There is a tall bridge between the nations, a bridge of friendship, of unity and love between Portugal and Brazil. And we wanted to take this recording together to symbolize the love between Portugal and Brazil.
Jack Rocervi: Exactly!
