7th part of the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon (concept): 1.921 kilometers in 31:30 minutes – completed on Tuesday, April 12th 2016, in the Área de Proteção Ambiental da Pedra Branca (overall map). The plastic and object artist Carina Bokel Becker (*1965) lives in Rio de Janeiro (more about her).
Why did you choose this part to represent Rio de Janeiro at the First Rio City Aesthetic Marathon?
I think that this part, independently of myself, shows a very beautiful side of Rio de Janeiro. Very healthy, exuberant nature, even nowadays. The beaches are still good and clean and here are many healthy things. As an artist, I chose this place because for years I have been playing with the idea to do a piece of work here, more for myself, a little film about the curves, about life or the relationship to yourself, you alone with yourself and life, about what you experience during lifetime. All this in a very simple manner, without a lot of dialogue and only about the feeling of life.
Your favorite art place in Rio?
The CCBB (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil) has good exhibitions, and I like the historical museum, although the access is a little bit difficult. All of a sudden we have lost the Casa Daros, that was a good place.
Your favorite shop in Rio?
Livraria Cultura in the shopping center Fashion Mall. Estrada da Gávea 899, Gávea.
Your favorite restaurant – and what should you order there?
I like the Azumi, japonese kitchen in the Rua Ministro Viveiros de Castro 127 in Copacabana. I like the juice stores Bibi Sucos and Polis Sucos a lot, you can find several in Rio.
